Illinois Valley posts best finish among Region 4 schools at NJCAA nationals

CAR. - The 2026 NJCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships featured several Region 4 teams competing, with Illinois Valley Community College leading that contingent as they tied for 13th place overall with 10.5 points. The College of Lake County and Sauk Valley Community College each tied for 19th with 2.0 points.

PALOS HILLS, ILL. - Four years after moving up to Division I, Illinois Valley Community College has won its first Region 4 Division I Women's Tennis Tournament title. The Eagles defeated runner-up McHenry County College by seven points to secure their third region crown overall after also winning the Division III championships in 2021 and 2019. The College of Lake County's Sasha Baer earned Region 4 Most Valuable Player honors, while IVCC's Julie Milota was named Region 4 Coach of the Year.

The College of DuPage men's team came away with the best finish, taking fourth in the Division III event, and even saw their top doubles tandem earn All-American accolades.

PALOS HILLS, ILL. - Following a hotly contested two days of action at the NJCAA Region 4 Division I Women's Tennis Tournament, Moraine Valley Community College took advantage of their home courts to secure their second region crown in the last three years. The Cyclones amassed 23.0 points to top defending champion McHenry County College by five points, followed by Elgin Community College in third with 12.5 points. Elaina Hibbeler, a sophomore for the Scots, was named Region 4 Most Valuable Player, while Clark Hallpike of Elgin Community College was awarded the Region 4 Coach of the Year.

TYLER, TEXAS & CHATTANOOGA, TENN. - Region 4 was well-represented at the NJCAA Division I & III Women's Tennis Championships during the 2023-24 season. In November, the College of DuPage finished with 1.0 point to take sixth place at the Division III tournament. In May, Sauk Valley Community College placed 23rd in a 28-team field to register the top finish by a region team at the Division I event.

The group includes six student-athletes and three coaches that excelled during their time competing in Region 4. The inductees represent six different Region 4 schools, including two inductees each for the College of DuPage, Oakton College, and Rock Valley College.

McHenry County uses five flight titles to claim Region 4 championship

PALOS HILLS, ILL. - McHenry County College is back on top of the Region 4 women's tennis mountain after claiming the 2023 Region 4 Division I Women's Tennis Tournament crown on October 13-14 at Moraine Valley Community College. The Scots, who had not won since completing back-to-back championship runs in 2019 and 2020, registered 22.0 points to beat out the second place Cyclones on their home courts. Moraine Valley Community College had 13.5 points, followed by Sauk Valley Community College in third with 9.0 points. Oakton College sophomore Zarina Sayed was the Tournament's Most Valuable Player, and McHenry County College's Jim Stockwell took home Region 4 Coach of the Year honors.

The Cyclones racked up 8.0 points to finish 21 out of 29 teams, with Sauk Valley Community College in 26th with 1.0 point and Oakton College tied for 28th.

Moraine Valley pushes to top of Region 4 women's tennis

PALOS HILLS, ILL. - Moraine Valley Community College snapped an eight year drought by claiming the 2022 NJCAA Region 4 Division I Women's Tennis Championship on October 7-8, and did so on their home courts. The Cyclones, who won region titles in 2012 and 2014, finished with 21.0 points to earn a 5.5 point victory over runner-up Sauk Valley Community College. College of Lake County sophomore Mia Falconi was awarded the Region 4 Player of the Year and the Region 4 Sportsmanship Award, while Matt Marusarz of MVCC was given the Region 4 Coach of the Year.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has released its list of All-Americans for the 2021 fall sports season, and 28 student-athletes representing NJCAA Region 4 were recognized. The group includes six from women's soccer, women's volleyball, and women's cross county, four from men's cross country, and three from the men's soccer and women's tennis. There are 14 First Team All-Americans, 12 second team honorees, and three honorable mention accolades. The student-athletes represent 13 different Region 4 schools.
